In Memory of Don Olsen

Don Olsen

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Don Olsen.

It is impossible to describe in a few words the impact that Don has had on our lives at Olsens Marketplace.

As many of you know, being our loyal customers and having shopped at Olsens over the years, Don was the ultimate professional. He loved his customers, he loved his community and he loved his employees.

Don grew up in the grocery business.  He first worked in his father’s grocery store in Seattle, Washington, and eventually opened his own stores, both in Washington and then in Arizona. Don brought his knowledge and commitment to his profession to the Ajo community in 1992 when he opened Olsens Marketplace with his wife, Bryanne.

He was always the friendly greeter at Olsens – making sure that everyone who walked through the doors of the store were welcomed and appreciated. His wisdom and his energy inspired us all in making Olsens Marketplace an outstanding place to shop for our community and a great place to work for all of us.

Don was active in trade, business, and community organizations, including the Board of Directors of Associated Grocers, Chairman of Independent Grocers West, Chairman of Arizona Food Marketing Alliance, a founding member Yuma Title and Trust, a founding member Southern Arizona Bank of Yuma, an Elder, Stone Ridge Church, and an active member of the Ajo Chamber of Commerce. Don was inducted into the AFMA Hall of Fame 2014.

Don is survived by his wife, Bryanne, his five children: Celeste Flynn and her husband, Erich, Christopher S. Olsen, Courtney S. Olsen, Sarah F. Olsen, Donald S. Olsen, Jr. and five grandchildren.

We have been honored and blessed to be in the presence of Don Olsen and will truly miss him each and every day.

Please keep his wife, Bryanne, and the entire Olsen family in your thoughts.
